Luka Vuskovic explains why he couldn't wait to make Hamburg loan move from Tottenham

Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic has joined Bundesliga club Hamburg SV on loan for the 2025/26 season. The teenager joins his older brother, Mario Vuskovic, at Volksparkstadion and his switch to Germany gives him the opportunity to get even more first-team experience under his belt.

Having initially made his name with Hajduk Split in his homeland of Croatia, Vuskovic went on to star for Radomiak Radom and Westerlo on loan before finally linking up with Tottenham for the first time this summer. The highly-rated defender marked his Spurs bow with a goal and assist in the team's 2-0 win over Reading in their first pre-season game of the summer.

With a number of players ahead of him in the pecking order at Spurs and given the need to be playing regularly to help his development, Spurs have allowed him to depart on loan for the season. Vuskovic was linked with Hamburg for quite some time and it is a move that suits all parties involved.

“I couldn’t wait to get here," Vuskovic told Hamburg SV's official website. "It’s something special for me to play for HSV, not only because my brother played here and told me so much about the club, but also because of its history, the fans and the conditions here.

"I’m very happy. I can’t wait to meet my teammates and experience the fans in the stadium.”

Director of football Claus Costa added: “We’ve been following Luka’s progress closely in recent years and we’re pleased the opportunity for a loan has now come up. He’s an excellent fit for us both as a player and as a person.

"For his age he already has an outstanding overall package. With his physical presence, aerial ability and strength in duels, he will immediately add presence to our back line.

"At the same time, he’s brave on the ball and a threat from set pieces. That makes him a modern centre-back who is already very advanced for his age.

"But he’s still only 18 and has a lot of development ahead of him. We want to give him the space here at HSV to take the next step in his career.”

Hamburg SV take on city rivals St Pauli on Friday evening before returning to Bundesliga action after the international break with an away clash against Bayern Munich.
