The much-anticipated results of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) Election 2025 will be announced on Friday, bringing to a close one of the most heated student political contests in recent years. Over 1.55 lakh students cast their vote in a high-stakes election that drew participation from across the sprawling university.
Court Steps In Before the Verdict
Ahead of the results, the Delhi High Court has imposed a strict ban on victory rallies by winning candidates. The court has directed Delhi Police, university authorities, and local administration to enforce tight measures to prevent any chaos or clashes.
The Numbers Behind the Poll
Held on Thursday, the elections saw more than 2.75 lakh students eligible to vote across over 50 colleges affiliated with Delhi University. Polling took place at 52 centres and 195 booths, using 711 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The overall voter turnout was recorded at 39.45 per cent.
A total of 21 candidates contested the four key positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary. Nine candidates battled for the President’s chair alone, while 12 others fought for the remaining posts. Voting was split into two phases: the morning session ran from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the evening phase from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in eight colleges. A slow start in the morning gave way to stronger participation later in the day.
Allegations and Tensions
The campaign season and polling day were not without controversy. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), alleged that incumbent DUSU President and National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) leader Raunak Khatri was involved in a scuffle on North Campus. ABVP Delhi State Secretary Sarthak Sharma claimed Khatri’s supporters even manhandled a female student outside Kirori Mal College, leaving her injured.
Both ABVP and NSUI have declared themselves confident of victory. While NSUI has played down the allegations, ABVP insists it is set to sweep all four posts, dismissing its rival’s claims as political panic.
Security Tightened Ahead of Results
Given the charged atmosphere, security has been tightened across all major university campuses. Police presence has been increased to maintain order once the results are announced.
The spotlight now turns to Friday, when Delhi University will find out which faction takes the helm of its influential student union, a result that could set the tone for campus politics in the year ahead.
