KPop Demon Hunters fans insist Netflix follows these 5 demands for confirmed sequel

Send Push

KPop Demon Hunters has fast become Netflix’s biggest hit ever following the release of the jaw-dropping musical animated film back in June.

Featuring dynamic action, world-class animation and a chart-topping soundtrack, it’s clear to see why the film has struck a chord with millions of viewers.

It’s also tapped into the worldwide K-Pop phenomenon like never before, so it’s no surprise that Netflix and Sony Pictures are reportedly going all-in on at least two sequels.

However, viewers have a long list of dos and don'ts for directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans to keep in mind if they want the franchise to continue. Here are the most important.

Don’t rush it

One of the most consistent fan demands for the KPop Demon Hunters (KPDH) sequel is the filmmakers need to take their time to deliver the best film possible.

While Netflix subscribers would be over the moon if a polished follow-up that matched or surpassed the quality of the original arrived next year, animation takes even more time than a live-action film, let alone the time it takes to write a great script.

One viewer commented on Reddit: “i hope they don't rush it and end up sacrificing plot-wise/story-wise.”

And another said: “They need to take their time to make the best movie that they can, not rush it out just to keep things relevant.”

KPDH primarily focuses on K-Pop trio Huntr/x, formed of Rumi (played by Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong) and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), who secretly keep humanity safe from demons.

However, their world is threatened when a group of demons, led by Jinu (Ahn Hyo-seop), form a rival boy band known as the Saja Boys to steal their fans.

While a sequel will likely feature Huntr/x taking on a new demonic threat, fans are desperate for the devilish yet dreamy demon dudes to make a comeback.

“I dont know how but please bring the saja boys back! I beg! I will preach it to the choir!!!!!” one fan exclaimed on X.

“haha alright jokes over i need a sequel of kpop demon hunters and for saja boys to come back ASAP,” another agreed.

And a Redditor said: “Listen, we didn't get enough of the Saja Boys and I don't care what form of plot twist has to be pulled, bring back the Saja Boys so that we can have their backstories too.”

While KPDH has gained over 200 million views for Netflix, it also performed respectively at the box office when the singalong version was released for just one weekend.

The streaming platform now has an opportunity for even more box office success when the sequel is eventually released, and fans would jump at the chance to see Huntr/x performing on the big screen.

One X user tweeted: “KPop Demon Hunters hits different in a movie theater crowd. People were having the time of their lives in there (including me), it was a total blast xD.

“If it showed anything, that sequel needs a theatrical release FOR SURE.”

For some fans, seeing the film on the big screen still isn’t enough. With reports about the sequel also suggesting a live show could be in the works, fans would go wild if they were able to see Huntr/x performing on stage.

One Redditor speculated: “I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a concert tour coming as well… Even if Huntr/x isn’t a real group, people will show up to see them ‘live’.”

And another replied: “They should go the route of Gorillaz and have 3D holograms of the animated characters performing.”

While the sequel will likely take place after the events of the first film, KPDH still left fans with several unanswered questions about the main trio.

According to viewers, KPDH 2 should not only move the story forward, but also delve further into Rumi’s mysterious parentage, Jinu’s dark past and Mira and Zoey’s childhoods.

“I know we all want Huntrix origins, Mira and Zoey's backstory and what happened to Rumi's parents but also PLEASE BRING JINU BACK!!!” one X user posted.

And a Redditor theorised: “More than anything I want the backstory on Rumi's parents. There's so much potential with the concept of a demon and hunter having a child - did they fall in love?

“Was her mom tricked and then betrayed? I can't wait to (hopefully) find out in a few years. Her dad might even be alive.”

KPop Demon Hunters is available to stream on Netflix.
