Prince Harry will return to the UK on anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's death

Prince Harry has confirmed he will return to the UK in September for a charity event, which will take place on the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death.

The Duke of Sussex will attend the WellChild Awards on September 8th, to celebrate the achievements and resilience of seriously ill youngsters and their families. It will be Harry’s 15th time attending the awards as he continues his work as the charity’s patron, which is a role he has held for 17 years.

The Duke will spend time with each winner and their families at a pre-ceremony reception then present an award to an inspirational child aged four to six. It comes as a royal butler reveals the one thing that will never happen if Harry reconciles with the royal family.

The confirmation of the visit has once again raised the question if Prince Harry will see his estranged father King Charles or Prince William on his rare trip to the UK.

GB News ' Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker spoke of Harry’s poignant decision for Harry to return on the date of his grandmother’s death, and suspected a quiet moment of reflection may be on the cards.

"It's the 8th of September, these awards, which is the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's death. So I suspect, it's not been confirmed, but I suspect he may make a trip to Windsor Castle to pay respects at the grave of his grandmother at St George's Chapel for a private visit. I'd be highly surprised if he didn't do that."

In a statement issued by WellChild today, the Duke said: “I am always privileged to attend the WellChild Awards and meet the incredible children, families and professionals who inspire us all with their strength and spirit.

“For 20 years these awards have highlighted the courage of young people living with complex health needs and shone a light on the devoted caregivers – family and professionals - who support them every step of the way.

“Their stories remind us of the power of compassion, connection and community.”

Harry is not expected to be accompanied by his wife Meghan Markle or his children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who will remain home in Montecito, California.

The awards in 2022 were held on the same day that Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral aged 96, forcing Harry and Meghan to withdraw from the event as the Duke flew to Scotland to be with other members of the Royal Family.
