Rekindling our connection with nature can have a profound impact on our wellbeing. The benefits of a short walk in the woodland are well documented and keenly felt.

We're blessed in the UK to have plenty of delightful, relaxing woodland beauty spots. But there's a unique location in Cheshire that has been winning hearts and minds and has been named as one of the best in the country. The charming woodland haven of Delamere Forest is situated within an hour's drive from both Liverpool and Manchester and it even boasts its own train station.

Delamere Forest has earned its stripes as one of the UK's premier forests for exploration, according to outdoor retailer Millets.

This beautiful woodland sanctuary stretches across 2,400 acres and is championed as the perfect spot for family outings, dog walks, picnics, and even cycling escapades. Millets' evaluation took into account factors such as toilet facilities, trail access, picnic areas, and the availability of a visitor centre or cafe.

Nestled on the Cheshire Plain, Delamere Forest is home to the Station House cafe, which provides a warm haven after a day spent marvelling at the forest's natural splendour, reports the Liverpool Echo. But it's not solely the picturesque surroundings that attract visitors.

Delamere also features a Gruffalo trail adored by families, alongside Go Ape, Segway rides, and bike trails for those craving a dash of adventure. For those journeying from further afield, the forest's holiday park cabins offer a peaceful sojourn amongst the trees.

The lodges come equipped with cosy log burners, hot tubs and even underfloor heating, enticing visitors from all corners for multi-day getaways.

One visitor raved: "Best experience we've ever had that we rebooked the day we got home. The staff were all very friendly and helpful! The cabin was super clean and the hot tub was unreal! The food was 5 star and we can't wait to come back!"

One thrilled TripAdvisor user exclaimed: "Amazing! Great walks, trails clearly signed and all very well kept. We had dogs so we marched along enjoying the peace. Had a picnic at the top of the hill. Was amazing!".

Another praised enthusiastically: "Such a nice day out! Would brilliant day out with kids as there's characters from the Gruffalo books around the forest!".

"There's also a Zog trail which would keep the kids entertained. The forest is really well looked after, with bins dotted around.

"Lots of car parking available and a visitors centre with toilets and a cafe. Perfect place to go for a picnic especially in summer or somewhere to walk the dog."
