Atomfall developer Rebellion has announced plans to release another story expansion for the first-person survival game.
In a surprise announcement, Rebellion has unveiled the brand new Red Strain DLC for Atomfall, which is one of my favourite games of the year, largely thanks to its story and exploration system.
And fans won't have to wait very long to play the new expansion, because the Red Strain DLC has been given a September 16 release date for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Not much is known about the second Atomfall DLC outside of a brief teaser trailer that can be seen below.
According to Rebellion, the expansion introduces a "highly confidential" new location, as well as brand new mysteries to uncover.
"More details about exactly what you will find in The Red Strain will be revealed in the lead up to the release," Rebellion explains. "But for now expect a highly confidential new location and plenty more mysteries to uncover."
As you can see from the trailer below, it all has something to do with the strange new foliage that has appeared within the world of Atomfall.
It seems to take place in and around an industrial complex that has been beset by this new strain.
The Red Strain is the second story expansion following the recent release of The Wicked Isle DLC. It's unclear if it will be part of the Deluxe Edition like The Wicked Isle.
Inspired by folk horror movies and stories, Wicked Isle transports players to an island called Midsummer. Players can reach the island by talking to the boat-keeper in Wyndham Village.
The island is said to feature higher levels of infection, which has resulted in new enemies such as pirate bandits and infected druids.
New items include the Blunderbuss shotgun, a new bow, cutlass, daggers and the Beekeeper's Staff.
Players can unlock new skills, not to mention an upgraded metal detector for finding hidden items.
